ANNOUCING CHANGES TO DV-2008
As you already aware of, 50,000 visas are granted to those who register for the
U.S. Green Card Lottery program each year. However, the U.S. Department of State
has added new changes to this year's Lottery program - DV 2008.
CHANGE #1 - INELIGIBLE COUNTRIES ADDED
This year Brazil and Peru have been added to the list of countries that are
not eligible for the Green Card Lottery Program.
PAST INELIGIBLE COUNTRIES
The following are countries that have been excluded from the program in the past
and are still excluded today:
Canada, China (Mainland-Born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti,
India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Korea, United
Kingdom and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
COUNTRIES STILL ELIGIBLE
Persons born in Hong Kong, Macau, Northern Ireland and Taiwan are still eligible
for Green Card Lottery program.

REASONS FOR COUNTRY INELIGIBILTY
According to the rules of the program, visas are not granted to countries sending
more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S during the past five years.
WAYS TO QUALIFY FOR GREEN CARD LOTTERY BASED UPON COUNTRY ELIGIBILITY
- In order to qualify for DV-2008, your place of birth has to be a country that is
eligible for the program.
- If you were born from a country that was not eligible, but your spouse was born
in a country that is eligible, then you can claim your spouse's
country of birth. However, if you are claiming your spouse country's eligibility,
both your names must appear on the registration form.
- Also, if you were born in a country whose natives are ineligible, but neither of
your parents was born there or resided there at the time of your birth, you may
claim nativity in one of your parent's country of birth that qualify
for the program.

CHANGE #2 - MUST INDICATE SPECIFIC EDUCATION DEGREE
The U.S. Department of State is requiring all registration forms for the
Green Card Lottery program to specifically indicate what type of educational
degree you have. In the past years, the program just required for you to indicate
whether or not you had a high school diploma. The following are the choices now
given on the registration form:
Education:
(1) Primary school only (2) High school, no degree (3) High school degree (4) Vocational
school (5) Some university courses (6) University degree (7) Some graduate level
courses (8) Master degree (9) Some doctorate level courses (10) Doctorate degree

CHANGE #3 - MUST INDICATE SPECIFIC
MARITAL STATUS
In regard to answering the question of marital status on the registration
form for the Green Card Lottery program, the U.S. State Department is requiring
specific information. It's no longer accepted to just indicate whether you are single,
married or divorced. The following are the choices now given on the Green Card lottery
registration form in regard to marital status:
(1) Single (2) Married (3) Divorced (4) Separated (5) Legally Separated

SUMMARY
If a person does not follow the exact instructions of the recent
changes to the Green Card Lottery program their application
is automatically disqualified. In fact, 6 out of 10 people who register for the
program are disqualified because of not filling the registration form out correctly,
the photos submitted do not meet the U.S. Department of State's rules, or they come
