DV UPDATE: YOUR #1 SOURCE ON THE LATEST IN THE
GREEN CARD LOTTERY PROGRAM
A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
The USAFIS organization has reviewed millions of photos determining whether or not
a person's picture can be submitted to the U.S. State Department for consideration
in the Green Card Lottery program. If not for our photo evaluation, many would
be automatically disqualified from continuing the Green Card Lottery process.
Even if you have filled out the paper work correctly, if the photo does not
meet the U.S. State Department requirements the application is trashed.
In this edition of DV update the USAFIS organization's Photo Review Board tells
all about the most interesting photos they have come across.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, however, there are times when you
see a picture and you are at a loss for words. Some applicants think they are auditioning
for a movie with Tom Cruise and submit a headshot, an actor's picture. Others think
they will be the next Miss Universe and submit a model's type of picture. Good looks
do not help in the Green Card Lottery process.

The U.S. State Department is very clear on photo specifications. Your face and
shoulders should be clearly seen from a frontal position. No profiles!
No hair in front of the face. No hands under the chin or hats on the head. There
needs to be space between the face and the border of the picture. So, photos that
focus solely on the face of a person will be disqualified.
There is also another saying that the eyes are the window to the soul. This is so
true of the Green Card Lottery program photos. Eyes need to be wide open.
No sunglasses!
Pictures of people wearing military, school or any other type of uniform will be
disqualified from the Green Card lottery program. It is great to show patriotism
to the military of one's country or show allegiance to your school and work, but
the U.S. government official just wants you to wear your everyday casual clothes
in the photo. Also, please wear clothes.
Some applicants have submitted photos from their vacation or night out on the town.
While these pictures are great memories for yourself and family members, U.S government
officials are not interested. All they want is a clear, focused black and white
picture of an applicant with no fancy background. A 2 X 2 inch U.S. passport
style photo is exactly what the doctor ordered. By the way, if you
are e-mailing a photo make sure that the resolution of the digital picture is
300 X 300 pixels.
For those applicants who register their entire family, please know that group photos
are not accepted. Each family member who is registering for the Green Card Lottery
program needs to have their own photo. No wedding or family holiday photos! Not
even a photo of you singing karaoke with your best friend. We hope that the advice
today will help you in the registration process of the Green Card lottery program.
Remember, the USAFIS organization is with you every step of the way. Don't put off
tomorrow for what you can do today. Register now!
